An absolute gem on the New Hampshire Seacoast.... New
Castle, a tiny island community, is home to the Wentworth By The Sea
Hotel. The hotel was originally opened in 1874, and recently been
restored to the opulence of a bygone era. The Wentworth By The Sea Marina
has 170 slips and can accommodate vessels up to 200 feet. Just across the
harbor lies the Wentworth By The Sea Country Club in Rye. The
Portsmouth Yacht Club, founded in New Castle in 1898 has a club house on
the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth Harbor. New Castle's Great Island Common
is a 31 acre oceanfront park with wonderful views of the harbor
lighthouses. Homes in New Castle range from antique colonials to sweeping
estates with bold ocean views.
New Castle NH is a
two square mile island rich in maritime and military history. Today it is a community of
840-850 residents with little room to grow. New Castle's 210 foot harbor is home to an
active Coast Guard Station with patrol boats and many other vessels that patrol from Maine
to Georgia. Much of New Castle's social activity centers around the Wentworth Marina and
the Portsmouth Yacht Club - home to hundreds of pleasure boats. The most famous landmark
is Wentworth by the Sea. New Castle is a quiet, scenic town who's residents want to keep
it that way.
