| Demographics, 2000 Census: From 1990 to
2000, Epping’s population increased by 6.1 percent to 5,476,
adding 314 residents. The median age is 35.8, with 27.1 percent
of the population under the age of 18 and 9.2 percent age 65 and
older. The total number of households is 2,047, with an average
size of 2.7 persons. Of those, 1,473 are family households, with
an average size of 3.1 persons. As of April 1, 2000, there were
2,215 total housing units. |

square mile of land area. Epping contains 26.1 square miles of
land area and 0.1 square miles of inland water area. |

| Origin: Granted in 1741, Epping was the last
town chartered by Massachusetts Governor Jonathan Belcher prior
to the establishment of New Hampshire as an independent
province. It was at one time a part of Exeter, and was named for
Epping Forest, a suburb of London. |
