| Demographics, 2000 Census: From 1990 to
2000, population in East Kingston grew by 32.0 percent to
1,784, adding 432 residents. The median age is 38.2, with
27.3 percent under the age of 18 and 7.4 percent age 65 and
older. The total number of households is 629, with an
average size of 2.8 persons. Of those, 508 are family
households, with an average size of 3.1 persons. As of April
1, 2000, there were 648 total housing units. |

per square mile of land area. East Kingston contains 9.9
square miles of land area and 0.1 square miles of inland
water area. |

| Origin: Once a part of Kingston, this
area was called Kingston East Parish. It was granted a
separate charter in 1738 after some residents petitioned
Governor Jonathan Belcher of Massachusetts that its location
was “too distant from the Kingston school and place of
worship.” |
